The Bank of Saipan has sued an attorney over unpaid loans amounting to over $30,000.

The bank filed with the Superior Court a civil action against Joseph Aldan Arriola, seeking to collect from the attorney the unpaid amount of the loans.

Bank lawyer S. Joshua Berger asked the court to compel Arriola to pay his client within three months from the time it issues a judgment on the case.

Berger asked the court to foreclose two mortgages executed by Arriola to secure a total loan amount of $34,535.65 in 2000 and 2001. He asked the court to auction two parcels of land mortgaged by Arriola, if the defendant would eventually fail to settle a possible judgment that is favorable to the bank.

Berger said the bank sent Arriola a notice of default last Nov. 24. He said Arriola owes the bank some $30,359.72 as of Nov. 23.

Berger said Arriola failed to settle the debt, with the defendant allegedly making his last payment to the bank in October last year.
