The Japan Saipan Travel Association recently inducted its 2005 board members with renewed emphasis on its foremost mission—providing a safe, fun and memorable travel experience for Japanese tourists.

JSTA also outlined several strategies for the year to increase the number of the Japanese tourists on the island.

Hideki Sakai of R&C Tours was chosen as chairman of the board. Ikuo Katayama of Pacific Micronesia Tours Inc. and Hirofumi Kiyohara of Jalpak International Micronesia are now JSTA’s vice chairmen, while Hiroyuki Shinozaki of Nippon Travel Agency Micronesia is the treasurer. Hideo Oyama of DFS Saipan Limited was chosen as secretary, while Yoichi Matsumura of the Pacific Development Inc. is the financial auditor.

Through their leadership, JSTA said it hopes to contribute to the local community by promoting a safe and healthy environment and continuously communicating with concerned agencies to address issues that could affect the tourism industry on the islands.

JSTA also aims to continue working hand in hand with the CNMI government by participating in its goal of doubling the number of visitors. It also intends to strengthen its ties with CNMI travel industry professionals for the best services and safety to visitors.

The group will also be holding overseas inspection trips that will compare the CNMI with competing tourist destinations, through which JSTA can provide recommendations on how to enhance the tourism industry in the entire CNMI.

Some of JSTA’s activities include effective sales promotions, fun events, beach cleanups, road safety promotions, maintaining and beautifying the ocean environment, among others. (Marconi Calindas)
