The Emergency Management Office, together with the National Weather Service on Guam, advised that the high surf advisory issued Wednesday remains in effect for Saipan, Tinian, and Rota.

According to EMO, computer wave model guidance and satellite scatterometer analysis at NWS indicate that large northwest swells generated by a storm system east of Japan will affect the Marianas.

The swells—wind generated waves traveling out of their generating area—were expected to arrive on the three islands yesterday afternoon.

Surf 10 to 13 feet were expected late last night until this morning.

EMO expects surf to remain hazardous throughout the weekend, citing that large surf could arrive suddenly.

Due to the increase of surf heights and high risk of dangerous rip currents in the region, the public is advised to avoid venturing near exposed beaches and reef lines on the north and west coasts.
