After hosting a number of successful Enticer Triathlons, fun runs, and a duathlon, the Northern Marianas Islands Triathlon Federation is at it again—but this time is just for the kids.

On Saturday, Feb. 12, the NMITF will host the St. Valentine’s Day Kids Duathlon. In the spirit of the season, teams of girls and boys will swim and run to kick off the 2005 Kids Tryathlon Series at the Kan Pacific Swimming Pool in Marpi.

The coeds will be divided into one of the five age groups, with each group exerting a little more effort than their younger counterparts. The youngest of the bunch will be known as the “Tykes and Training Wheels” class, consisting of children between the ages of 5-and-under.

Children between the ages of 6-7 will compete in a 50-meter swim and a 500m run, while the 8-9-year-olds will swim 100m and run 1-kilometer. The 10-11-year-olds will spend a little more time in the water, as they will swim 200m and run 1km. The oldest of the youngsters competing in the 12-14-years-old division will log the most distance with a 200m swim and a 2km run.

According to race director Sue Knecht, the kids will be treated to fun, and Valentine’s cookies following the race.

Registration for the event begins bright and early at 7am, with the swim portion of the race getting under way at 7:30am.
