A 10-year-old Korean girl who died Sunday shortly after a fatal jet ski accident sustained severe head and spinal injuries, according to the Department of Public Safety.

Police spokesman Eric F. David disclosed yesterday that the victim, identified only as Ms. Kim, was enjoying the waters off the beach in Susupe with friends when the accident occurred shortly before noon.

According to David, the victim was with a 19-year-old female friend, who was operating the jet ski that they were on.

“The operator apparently lost control and ran straight to an anchored boat,” David said.

The victim was reportedly thrown off the jet ski due to the impact of the collision and slammed into the side of the anchored boat.

“She sustained severe head and spine injuries,” David said. “She had cuts and abrasions on her face and broke her neck.”

David said the operator of the jet ski sustained minor lacerations and bruises.

The accident was reported to DPS and Boating Safety Section officers, who immediately responded to the scene. Medics transported the two victims to the Commonwealth Health Center, where the 10-year-old girl was pronounced dead.

David said the family of the 10-year-old girl will soon arrive from Korea to check on the body.

David said the group of friends had been briefed by a tour guide on how to operate the jet skis before they went into the water.
