Sobriety checkpoint on Friday

The Traffic Section of the Department of Public Safety will conduct sobriety checkpoints this coming Friday, Feb. 18, on different roadways on Saipan.

The first set up will be on 2W Highway Garapan by Central Park. This operation will commence at approximately 8pm and will be terminated at approximately 9:15pm.

The second set up will be on Beach Road Garapan by Guam Saving. This operation will commence at approximately 10pm and will be terminated at approximately 11:15pm.

Each checkpoint conducted will last at least 75 minutes (1 hour and 15 minutes) at each location.

This activity is part of DPS’ efforts to deter and detect drunk/intoxicated drivers and ensure that all vehicle occupants are protected.

In addition, the traffic officers will be performing highway criminal interdictions, saturation patrols, aggressive driver interdictions, and laser activities. For more information, contact Sgt. Joseph Flores at 664-9084-6.

Meanwhile, the DPS announced that it would conduct three seatbelt and car seat checkpoints on Rota this Saturday, Feb. 19.

The first setup will be on San Francisco Highway in Teteto between Sweet and Things Store and the southern end of Teteto Beach from 9am to 10:15am.

The second setup will be on San Francisco Highway in Sonton between the Veterans’ Memorial Park and the northern end of Rota Hotel from 12pm to 1:15pm.

The third setup will be on San Francisco Highway in Tatachog near the Tatachog pavilion from 3pm to 4:15pm.

DPS said the checkpoints will be terminated if it begins to rain.
