A Guam resident who is believed to have moved to the Northern Marianas is facing a lawsuit at the CNMI Superior Court over alleged unpaid debt from a Guam credit union.

The Government of Guam Employees Federal Credit Union has filed a civil action against Franklin J.F. Cruz. The credit union wants to collect some $8,744.84 from Cruz.

Roy T. Chikamoto, the credit union’s attorney, said that Cruz issued a $10,000-promissory note to his client last Oct. 31, 2002.

Chikamoto said Cruz defaulted on the loan payment and has failed to settle the debt despite demand by the credit union.

Chikamoto also asked the court to hold Cruz responsible for attorney’s fees and other costs that would be incurred by the credit union in the course of litigation.
