The Commonwealth Election Commission wishes to inform the general public that voter registration for the 2005 general election is ongoing and eligible voters can register at several venues Commonwealth-wide or by mail, for those temporarily residing outside the CNMI.

All United States citizens or nationals who will be 18 years old of age on Nov. 5, 2005, who are domiciled and reside in the NMI, are of sound mind and are not serving a sentence, including probation, for a felony conviction are eligible to register to vote in the 2005 general election. Anyone born in the NMI beginning on Jan. 9, 1978 is considered a U.S. citizen.

Eligible voters who failed to vote in the 2001 and/or the 2003 elections must re-register in order to be eligible to vote this year.
The commission requires evidence of U.S. citizenship and registrants must provide the commission with a copy of either a current U.S. passport, naturalization certificate, certificate of citizenship or a certificate of live birth. The provision of documentary evidence of an individual’s U.S. citizenship or national status is required only once and those who have provided the commission with this evidence will never be required to produce it again.

Voters’ registration can be taken at the commission’s office at 1313 Anatahan Drive in Capitol Hill, Saipan. Rota residents may register with commissioners Miranda V. Manglona or Henry S. Atalig. Tinian residents may register with commissioners Matthew C. Masga or Jose P. Kiyoshi or Mary B. Diaz.

Residents of the islands north of Saipan may contact the commission via the Emergency Management Office radio for registration information. Those temporarily residing outside the NMI can register by downloading the registration forms and questionnaire at http:www.votecnmi.gov.mp/downloads/registration.pdf and completing the requirements listed in the instruction page and then return the completed forms by mail directly to the commission’s mailing address.

Anyone having any question about voter registration or any other election issue should feel free to contact the commission either by mail, telephone, facsimile or email to one of the addresses above.
