Child porn raps vs. ex-Customs man modified
Federal prosecutors amended anew the charges against a former Customs officer who allegedly received pornographic materials that depict an underaged person engaged in sex.
In a second superseding indictment, assistant U.S. attorney Jamie D. Bowers charged Crispin A. Taitano with two counts of receipt of child pornography and a count of possession of child pornography.
The filing of the new indictment entails a new arraignment for Taitano, who had earlier denied the charges based on the first superseding indictment. In that document, the prosecutor charged Taitano with a count of receipt of child pornography and six counts of possession of child pornography.
Bowers said that Taitano received on April 22, 2004 five VHS tapes and a CD-ROM depicting an underaged person having sex. From Oct. 11, 2003 to April 22, 2004, Taitano also received digital and computer images with similar visual depictions, Bowers added.
Taitano received the pornographic materials by shipment and computer, Bowers said.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the U.S. Postal Inspections Service investigated the case against Taitano, owner of the Cue Time pool hall, bar and game room on Rota.
Receipt of child pornography carries a prison term ranging from five to 20 years without the possibility of parole, plus a maximum $250,000-fine. Conviction on possession of child pornography entails up to 10 years of imprisonment and a maximum fine of $250,000.
