Ulloa confirms, Sunrisers added to 25-and-under cast
The 2005 BANMI 25-and-Under Basketball League is all set to unfold today, but not after more teams have expressed interest in competing for its prestigious crown.
League co-coordinator Elias Rangamar disclosed shortly after a mandatory meeting with team coaches and managers yesterday that Ulloa has already settled its entrance fee, while the late addition of the San Vicente Sunrisers has upped the competing cast to seven teams.
Rangamar also indicated that a team from Tanapag is also showing strong signs of suiting up for the annual hardcourt tango, however, confirmation their has yet to be received.
In addition to the Sunrisers, Ulloa, and possibly Tanapag, other squads putting cash on the line for a shot at the title include last year’s runner-up Ghasias Brothers, Hoopaholics, Toyota Prius, Garapan Rollers, and the San Antonio Wildcats.
Rangamar earlier released the schedule for opening night, which would feature the Hoopaholics squaring off against the Brothers at 6:30pm, followed by Prius clashing with the G-Rollers at 8pm.
Because Ulloa has settled its payment requirement with the league, its original scheduled date to take the court [next Saturday] was changed as they are now scheduled to bang heads with the Wildcats tomorrow afternoon at 1pm.
All players are reminded to submit completed waiver forms before stepping on the court. Players eligible for action are those whose 26th birthday does not predate the start of the season.
In 2003, the Northern Marianas College Proa hoisted the championship crown by downing a determined Brothers squad in a hard-fought finale. The team was coach by Rufino Aguon and included players such as Jester Garcia, Ambrose Ogumoro, Dave Palacios, Jeremy Sablan, and Oscar Ada, among others.
