A former Customs officer facing child pornography charges pleaded “not guilty” at the U.S. District Court on Friday.

Crispin A. Taitano also waived his right to speedy trial. Chief Judge Alex R. Munson set Taitano’s jury trial to begin on May 23.

Assistant U.S. attorney Jamie D. Bowers had charged Taitano with two counts of receipt of child pornography and a count of possession of child pornography.

Bowers accused Taitano of receiving on April 22, 2004 five VHS tapes and a CD-ROM disk depicting an underaged person engaged in sex. From Oct. 11, 2003 to April 22, 2004, Taitano also received digital and computer images with similar visual depictions, the prosecutor said.

Bowers said that Taitano, owner of the Cue Time pool hall, bar and gameroom on Rota, received the pornographic materials by shipment and by computer.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the U.S. Postal Inspections Service investigated the case against Taitano.
