Beginning today, SaipanCell wireless customers will be able to download a variety of gaming, entertainment and productivity applications over the air, using a new service called BREW.

The service is powered by Qualcomm’s Binary Runtime Environment for Wireless, or BREW, platform. Content providers and applications available for the service include Games from EA Sports, JAMDAT Mobile, and Sega Mobile; Ringtones from RealTone JukeBox and Zingy; Wallpapers from Def Jam and Wallpaper Universe; Mobile greeting cards from Blue Mountain Mobile; and e-mail access from Remo.

“SaipanCell customers can now enhance the value and enjoyment of their wireless service with the ability to download games and other applications to their phone,” said Jennifer Quijano, SaipanCell wireless content manager. “SaipanCell is the first and only wireless service provider in Saipan and Guam offering downloadable applications over the air, using BREW.”

SaipanCell’s new offering of BREW games include some of the hottest titles such as Texas Holdin, Tetris, Van Helsing, The Price is Right, NHL Wireless, Babe Ruth Baseball, Off-Road Racing, Fight Club, Predator, and much more. There are more than 400 games available to SaipanCell customers.

According to Quijano, SaipanCell customers need a BREW-enabled handset to access the service and must be on a postpaid account. All current SaipanCell handsets are BREW capable and many older handsets sold within the past two to three years are BREW capable as well.

SaipanCell will be holding special BREW programming events and promotions over the next few months so customers can have their phones activated with BREW so they can begin enjoying the thousands of new games and ringtones.”

SaipanCell customers with a BREW capable phone can browse and purchase applications by selecting the “BREW Shop” option on their phone. Customers may demo many different applications before they purchase, and typically select from a variety of license pricing options depending on the applications.

Airtime charges do not apply during the selection and download process. Once downloaded, applications do not require a wireless connection and can be accessed at anytime, anywhere without incurring airtime charges. Purchased applications will appear on the customer’s monthly SaipanCell service bill. Customers are charged for each application downloaded. At this point in time BREW is available only on postpaid accounts, the company plans to offer the service to its prepaid subscribers very soon.

BREW is available on the following SaipanCell handsets: LG VX 6000, Motorola V710, Motorola T731, Motorola V265, Motorola E310, Motorola C343, Nokia 6585, Nokia 6225, Nokia 3205, LG VX 4400, Kyocera SE47 Slider, Kyocera Blade, Kyocera 3225 and Kyocera Koi KX2.

“Our new BREW service is bold and different; it reflects our leadership and direction as a friendly and progressive wireless service provider,” Quijano said. “There’s a whole new world inside your phone: games, entertainment, music, inspiration, and more. And, it doesn’t get much cooler than BREW.”
