Lavena Babauta commended

The eighth Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council has adopted a resolution congratulating Tanapag Elementary School teacher Lavena C. Baabuta for being selected the 2004 CNMI Teacher of the Year.

Babauta, who was also chosen 2004 TES Teacher of the Year, was given the distinguished Public School System award at Kagman Elementary School in November last year.

The 2004 Teacher of the Year panel of judges was made up of former Board of Education member Ester Fleming, Grace Christian Academy principal Faith Dela Rosa, McDonald’s president and owner Joe Ayuyu, Northern Marianas College program coordinator/instructor Maria H. Aguon, and NMC Rota campus coordinator Severina Ogo.

All five judges reviewed candidates from all public schools in the CNMI for the 2004 Teacher of the Year award.

The PSS officially announced Babauta as the 2004 CNMI Teacher of the Year during Education Day festivities held at TES last Nov. 24.

Babauta teaches 1st grade at TES and she has been with the PSS for 16 years. She has taught from the kindergarten level up to 3rd grade.

The 2004 education planning committee under the leadership of chair Alfred B. Ada, William S. Reyes Elementary School, was also congratulated and commended by the municipal council for a job well done.

The resolution concluded by saying that members of the municipal council and the people of the CNMI extend their sincere and heartfelt recognition, congratulation and commendation to Babauta for her winning the CNMI Teacher of the Year award, and for bringing honor and distinction to her students, families, friends, and the PSS.

The resolution also said that Gov. Juan N. Babauta has signed a proclamation declaring the month of November CNMI Education Month.

The resolution honoring Babauta was certified by chair Gregorio V. Deleon Guerrero and vice chairn David A. Indalecio and attested by council secretary Antonia M. Tudela. (PR)
