A task force headed by Department of Public Safety commissioner Santiago Tudela swept through western Garapan Friday night, resulting in police arresting five individuals—four females and one male—for loitering.

Police spokesman Eric F. David said yesterday that the task force concentrated on loitering, prostitution, and disturbance to tourists under its recently launched Operation: Clean Sweep initiative.

He said the operation would be conducted every Friday or every other Friday at the Garapan area.

David said the suspects arrested were in violation of the CNMI anti-loitering act, or Public Law 13-15. They were detained at the Adult Corrections Facility and released Saturday.

“They were either soliciting, or confronting bystanders or tourists and grabbing them to lure them to business for commercial gain for their establishment,” David said.

The task force is comprised of the Criminal Investigation Bureau, Attorney General Investigative Unit, Department of Labor, Immigration, and Department of Commerce.

The operation runs from 6pm to midnight.
