DPW gets pedestrian safety materials
Saipan Garment Manufacturers Association chair and UIC president James C. Lin recently presented Public Works Secretary Juan Reyes with $30,000 worth of materials for pedestrian crosswalks.
The turnover was conducted during a tour of a United International Corp. factory last Thursday by U.S. Senate Energy Committee staffers Josh Johnson and Allen Stayman.
SGMA executive director Richard A. Pierce released the materials, including the newest Department of Transportation-standard pedestrian crosswalk signage, 3M Corp. pails of adhesive and highly reflective marking and striping for crosswalks in San Antonio, Gualo Rai and at the Sugar King Park intersections.
Pierce mentioned during the brief ceremony that Region IX Occupational Safety and Health Administration chief Frank Strasheim had identified roadway pedestrian safety issues as the foremost health and safety issue for garment factory employees in Saipan.
SGMA donated all the materials to the CNMI government to install to safeguard Saipan’s roadway pedestrians as a part of their community service projects.
