Crisostimo in DC to link up with Democrats
Democratic senator and gubernatorial hopeful Luis Crisostimo flew to the United States this week, partly to pursue a formal affiliation with the national Democratic Party.
“He is in Washington to file his national Democratic Party organizational charter,” said Senate President Joaquin G. Adriano in an interview yesterday.
He said that Crisostimo and Sen. Thomas “Kiyu” Villagomez left the island together to attend the Western Association of Legislators.
“At the same time, they will stop by at the Democratic Party’s headquarters. Sen. Kiyu is tagging along,” said the Senate president.
Villagomez is a member of the local Republican Party, which received official recognition last year from the national GOP.
Crisostimo, who was not chosen by the NMI Democratic Party to be its standard bearer in the November polls for not meeting some requirements, recently announced the formation of his own party, “Populao National Democratic Party.”
He said this party is designed to be aligned with the national Democratic Party.
The senator lost the local party’s endorsement for gubernatorial candidacy to former governor Froilan C. Tenorio.
He said his own party has formulated its bylaws, and would hold a primary for the governorship by June this year.
The senator said he is already a member of the national party.
