3 men nabbed in NI for pot, illegal firearm
Federal and CNMI operatives intercepted a fishing vessel in the Northern Islands and arrested three people for alleged illegal possession of a firearm and marijuana.
Operatives from the U.S. Coast Guard and the CNMI/Drug Enforcement Administration Task Force swooped down on the Tenshou II fishing vessel while at sea Tuesday morning as it headed from Pagan to Saipan.
Department of Public Safety spokesman Eric David said the operatives escorted the fishing vessel to Saipan and arrested three persons, whose identities he did not disclose as of press time.
The vessel had 10 occupants, some of whom were in handcuffs, as seen in DPS photos.
Lawmen seized a .22-caliber gun from one person and some 36 grams of marijuana sticks from two others, according to David.
David said the operatives acted on a tip that a vessel in the Northern Islands would be carrying a huge amount of marijuana to Saipan.
Police did not say if the marijuana sticks came from Pagan. David clarified that two of the suspects did not carry marijuana plants but processed ones inside rolled papers to form sticks. Marijuana users usually smoke marijuana sticks like cigarettes.
A certain Manny Blas operated the vessel, which is owned by one Jack Manglona, the police spokesman said.
