640 tourists participate in group campaign
The Marianas Visitors Authority’s group incentive campaign has drawn 640 visitors in its first month of inception.
MVA reported that 10 different companies had participated last month in the campaign, which kicked off on April 1, 2005.
In the first half of May, the Northern Marianas was expecting to receive some 400 visitors under the campaign. This is based on group applications submitted to MVA for the program.
“Although a small start, the effort to increase arrivals during the low season is the reason behind the creation of this campaign,” said MVA managing director Vicky I. Benavente.
Held in collaboration with the Japan Marianas Tourism Club, the group incentive campaign provides participants a chance to partake in activities at the Chamolinian Cultural Village. Visitors are also given a special privilege card that allows participants to receive discounts from various vendors on island, including restaurants, spas, and souvenir shops.
MVA and JMTC came up with the idea to conduct the 2005 Group Incentive Campaign in November 2004, in an effort to stimulate more traffic to the Northern Marianas.
“Despite the limited funds the MVA has to work with, the JMTC members understood the situation and wanted only to assist the destination develop a selling tool that resulted in this year’s Group Incentive Campaign,” MVA said.
JMTC consists of major travel agencies and allied members of airline companies servicing the CNMI.
“JMTC continues to be a major contributor to be a major contributor to the CNMI’s Japanese arrivals. They continue to develop new products and services offered to their clientele, and therefore, offering more options and activities for our arriving guests,” said Benavente. (Agnes E. Donato)
