A golf tournament, a walkathon, and a slew of other activities would be held during the 3rd Annual Family Fun Day set for June 25 at LaoLao Bay Golf Resort.

The event kicks off with a first-ever walkathon at LaoLao Bay hosted by the Commonwealth Diabetes Coalition. The walkathon would use the Kagman facility’s west course and treat participants with a breathtaking view of nature inside the sprawling golf resort.

Children and people who are still young at heart are also certain to enjoy the carnival rides and fun activities offered at the venue from 8am to 4pm. Among the activities that the entire family could participate in are kite flying and horseback riding

An additional treat is a wildlife booth that would be set up by the Department of Lands and Natural Resources. It would feature a nature walk and ride that would take place from 8am to 4pm.

Not to be outdone, the Division of Environmental Quality would also hold a water cycle and conservation demonstration from 1pm to 2pm.

The centerpiece of the event is the golf tournament, which will have seven instead of the usual six divisions.

The Championship Flight would be for players with 0-7 handicap, A Flight for 8-13 handicap, B Flight for 14-19 handicap, C Flight for 20 and above handicap, Ladies Flight, Seniors Flight for players 50 years old and above, and Junior Flight for players 17 years old and below.

Showtime is set at 10:30am with tee time expected an hour later at 11:30am. Cash prizes in the adult divisions include $300 for first place, $200 for second, and $100 for first. Junior winners get $150 for first place, $100 for second, and $50 for third.

As added bonus, LaoLao Bay would also be giving away cash and cars in the tournament’s hole-in-one challenges.

Six months of unlimited golf would also be awarded to first place winners in the adult divisions, while one-, two-, and three-month driving range balls await all junior winners.

“We thought about how could we further open up the door [at LaoLao Bay]. Since the golf course is a place you want to play golf it doesn’t make sense to do something else,” said LaoLao Bay president and chief financial officer Hiroyuki Saito. “But after brainstorming a little, we also decided to add the walkathon and the rest of the activities to give it a more family oriented and harmonizing feel. In essence, we basically concentrated our efforts toward promoting sport, health, and the environment.”

Computer System Administrator Jerry P. Tiu echoed Saito’s comments and also invited the public, especially the golfers on island, to participate in the event.

“For the golf tournament, we would like to have our loyal patrons to come back and again play a round of golf with us. This is the third time we are doing this and this is so far the biggest,” he said.
