Motorcycle Club from Guam donates to DYS
The Thunder Road Motorcycle Club of Guam donated several sports equipment to the Division of Youth Services several days before participating in the 60th CNMI Liberation Day and 229th American Independence Day on Saipan.
The Thunder Road Motorcycle Club of Guam donated the equipment— four basketballs, two volleyballs, and five footballs—to the DYS Volunteer Program last July 1.
DYS officer Benylin Mettao said the club has been generously donating toys and sports equipment for the last three years.
Club president Tony Lujan presented the gifts on behalf of the club. He said he and the other club members were pleased to be invited to come to Saipan once again and be part of the Liberation Day Festivities. He said he is equally glad to donate sports equipment for a worthy cause.
Mettao said club members rode their bikes to the DYS Office on Capitol Hill. Lt.Gov. Diego T. Benavente, together with DYS director Victor A. Mesta, welcomed the club.
Volunteer Program Coordinator Vivian Sablan was also present to accept the donations from the club.
Mettao said the donation has always been part of the club’s community projects. “This makes it the third year [that] they donated to DYS,” she said.
Lujan said they would do it again whenever they get the chance to be on Saipan. “Even though it’s just a few balls, they feel great that they can lighten up the summer for the kids under DYS’ care,” Mettao said.
She said the toys and sports equipment would be handed over to the DYS shelter to be use for the children’s outdoor activities.
