CDA OKs $310K for central market
The Northern Marianas Housing Corp. has approved a $310,000 grant for the proposed Garapan Central Market.
In a letter to House minority leader Arnold I. Palacios, CDA/NMHC executive director Maria Lourdes S. Ada said that the central market project would get the financial assistance under the NMHC’s 2005 Community Development Block Grant.
“The central market project has been approved by the NMHC board of directors…,” said Ada.
She asked the lawmaker to provide additional updated project costs and design changes or changes to the proposed location.
She said the annual action plan of the project will be finalized and distributed to the clearing house for review and presented to the governor for his signature.
Once signed, the plan will be sent to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for final approval.
The funds will be released late this year, Ada said.
The central market project will be located at the Garapan fishing base, across Kristo Rai.
The project initially received a $500,000 funding last year from the Legislature.
Palacios said the appropriation money was set aside for the architectural and engineering design.
The $310,000 grant, meantime, will be used for collateral equipment, he said.
He said the entire project is expected to be completed next year.
