Saipan was voted the third best destination in a recent Asiana Airlines cabin crew survey, outranking high-end tourist spots such as Los Angeles, Fukuoka, and Paris.

A total of 1,233 members of Asiana’s cabin staff participated in the annual survey, the results of which were published in major media outlets in Korea.

Asiana-Saipan general manager Kim Kwang Joong reported that Saipan earned a very honorable place behind Bangkok, Thailand and Sydney, Australia.

Saipan garnered 7.7 percent of the votes, while Bangkok and Sydney received 12.4 percent and 10.5 percent respectively.

Los Angeles ranked fourth with 6.6 percent. It was followed by South Korea’s Jeju Island with 4.4 percent; Thailand’s Pattaya, 4 percent; and Singapore, 3.1 percent.

Completing the top 10 list were China with 2.8 percent; Fukuoka, Japan, with 2.6 percent; and Paris, France, with 2.4 percent.

The survey covered only destinations where Asiana Airlines operates flights. Asiana has offices all over the world, including the United States, Europe, China, Japan, New Zealand, Russia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, India, and Southeast Asia.

The Korean air carrier does not have flight service to two of Saipan’s major competitors: Hawaii and Guam.

“This survey is very credible because the cabin crews travel a lot. They’ve seen a lot of places, so they can compare,” Kim noted. He added that most of Asiana’s cabin staff members have been to the island more than once.

According to Kim, the features that Asiana’s staff, as well as most Korean travelers, like about Saipan are the island’s proximity to Korea, the beautiful sea, and the peaceful community.

“For Korean tourists, Saipan is a very good place to bring their family for vacation,” he said.
