$110,000 leftover funding re- programmed for road projects
Gov. Juan N. Babauta has approved a bill re-appropriating $110,348 “leftover” capital improvement funds for on-going road paving and drainage projects in Precinct 4.
Babauta signed the bill, House Bill 14-327 into Public Law 14-76.
“The funds identified by this measure are available for appropriation and that this appropriation measure is in compliance with all applicable Office of Insular Affairs 702 capital improvement projects’ policy requirements,” said Babauta.
He noted that the funding is necessary to complete critical infrastructure development projects in Precinct 4.
Precinct 4 congressman Justo S. Quitugua, who authored the bill, said he found out about the leftover funds by going over the periodic CIP report.
He said that due to requirements imposed by the Historical Preservation Office, the contract for the original project—Tanapag and San Roque Drainage Improvement Projects—was terminated, making some $110,000 available for use.
“We don’t want to lose this leftover funds. This bill re-appropriates this money for other ongoing projects in the precinct,” said Quitugua.
He said the additional funding is necessary to appropriately minimize the safety hazards and various environmental and health problems posed by the poor condition of the roads in the precinct. (Liberty Dones)
