Anatahan’s volcano continues to be in a state of constant eruption, based on monitoring records in the last 24 hours.

In a joint report by, the U.S. Geological Survey and the Emergency Management Office, said the seismic amplitude levels of the eruptions show that the rates of eruption are between 30 to 60 percent of the peak levels compared to what was observed from June 17 to 26, 2005.

Both agencies said the eruptions occasionally increase due to strong and high winds. “Long-period events continue to be sporadic in frequency,” said the advisory.

The seismic amplitude levels were recorded at Anatahan’s east seismic station ANA2.

Based on the report, plumes continue to extend due to winds at 25 to 35 knots in a northerly direction. “Ash is presumed to be at 15,000 feet, but no ash is visible due to extensive cloud cover over the region.”

The advisory also said both ANA2 and SARN monitoring devices are functioning.
