Though the Commonwealth Football League has mostly been an organization comprised of players and coaches from Saipan all of that is about to change this season as the Tinian Typhoon will return to the gridiron.

During their meeting on Thursday night at the VFW post on Beach Road, team reps and league officials discussed a number of issues surrounding the roughest sport in the CNMI, and while there will be some changes as the league enters its fifth season, many things will remain the same.

Due to the poorly sculpted stretch of green in the center of the crimson track in Oleai, the CPA Airport Field will once again play host to the monsters of the Marianas—with two exceptions.

The CFL is honoring the return of the Typhoon by returning to Tinian for a pair of night games. While all sides agree that making the trips will involve difficulties, the teams are dedicated to providing their brothers from across the channel with a much needed home field advantage.

In the spirit of helping each other, the teams also extended their deadline for registration fees until this Wednesday, Aug. 24, after which a weekly late fee of $100 will be imposed until payment is received in full.

Just two weeks after releasing the schedule for the upcoming 2005 season, the board of directors had to retract it until the logistical aspects of the Tinian games are fully realized, and while the dates and time for the games are still up in the air, the Shell Lightning, Miller Barbarians, Tinian Typhoon, and the Eagles start the season on Saturday, Sept. 24, when the Lightning and Eagles kickoff the double-header at 10am, followed by the afternoon assault by the Typhoon on the Barbarians at 1pm.
