Paintball this morning at Raiders Field
There’s nowhere to hide when the marking marauders gather today to participate in the eighth installment of the monthly CNMI Inter-Island Paintball Tournament at Raiders Field in As Matuis.
The real colors of fake war will be on display this morning as teams from Saipan and Tinian vie for a slot in the year end invitation only tournament by dodging the multi-hued flurry of flak down range.
The cost of registration is $10 to enter your squad into the color war, with an additional $5 fee for marker rental if necessary. The pre-spree briefing takes place at 10am, and the games start at 11am.
For more information, contact tournament coordinator Norma Rueter by calling 286-0809.

NMITF Enticer Series returns anew
It’s time to put down the remote and shine up that rusty derailer as the Northern Marianas Islands Triathlon Federation has just released the schedule for the 2005 Enticer/Sprint Triathlon Series.
Whether your goal is to get fit or to try something new, the first race of the series offers a taste of the world of multisport on Saturday, Aug. 27, at 8:30am at the Kan Pacific Pool in Marpi.
According to series director Sue Knecht, anyone is able to handle 200 meter swim, 4-km bike ride, and 1-km run on Saipan’s northern end—whether they have the gear or not.
“If you need a bike, a helmet, goggles, babysitter, etc, send me a note and we’ll do our best to get you out on the course. No excuses!”
The Enticer/Sprint Series events are all adult races, and while entrants must be 14 years of age or older, those between the ages of 14-18 must have a signed parental consent.
The cost to participate in all of the Sprint/Enticer races is $5 for NMITF members and $10 for non-members. The cost of an annual membership is $25.
To pre-registration for the races, send your intentions to sueknecht1@yahoo.com.

Local athletes to give “Wayne” a tri
A little more than three months have passed since Olivier Marceau and Jamie Whitmore took the tape in the 16th Annual Tagaman Triathlon through the archway at the American Memorial Park and aside from the CNMI’s team training for the Mini-SPG’s, the local multisport scene has been pretty quiet.
All of that is about to change as the organizers of the Try Wayne Tri are planning to sashay their event to the shores of Saipan with the Try Wayne Tri II.
The first race of its kind in the CNMI will break the summer doldrums on Monday, Sept. 5, at 7:30am as participants of varying degrees of physical fitness are welcome to join in the casual concert of coordination.
The race entails a 1.2km swim around the semi-submerged WWII era tanks in the Saipan lagoon, a 20km bike to the seaport in Puerto Rico and back, and a 5km run to the Japanese tank at Quartermaster Road, but don’t be fooled by the distances as the event is not focused on high speeds and low times.
For more info about the TWTII or to sign up as a volunteer for the Labor Day event, contact Bramlett via email at huengo@att.net or by calling 235-8583.
