The Refaluwasch Golf Association will be undertaking a toy drive instead of its traditional Thanksgiving dinner for the island’s elderly following its Turkey Shoot in the last week of October.

RGA president Jess Wabol said the golf club aims to raise at least $200 for the purchase of toys for underprivileged five- to six-year-olds on Saipan.

He said RGA is planning to present toys to 10 to 12 children from families who have not been able to afford such luxuries in the past.

Wabol said unlike the man’amko, underprivileged children do not often receive support from the community and is one of the most neglected sectors of society.

He said RGA’s hosting of Thanksgiving dinners to the man’amko the past several years was memorable, but it was time to move on and support another sector of the community.

Wabol also said the man’amko would do just fine without RGA’s annual Thanksgiving dinner, since the elderly have been getting a lot of support from other organizations in the island.

He also reminded members that RGA would be holding its Best Ball Tournament tomorrow, Sept. 17, at the Laolao Bay Golf Resort’s west course. The entry fee is $50 per player and the round will have an 11am check-in and 12pm tee-off.

Wabol also reiterated RGA’s requirements for its yearend Club Championship. He said monthly champions must play in at least six ace tournaments or cede their slots in the yearend bash to their runners-up.
