The Saipan Major League is giving interested teams until today to confirm their interest in taking part in the 2005 SML Fall League, according to league coordinator Tony Roglifoi.

Rogolifoi said a mandatory meeting would be held at 6pm today at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium to discuss issues regarding the league.

“We’re giving them up to today,” he said. “If they’re not ready, then we’ll just cancel the league for this season and wait for next year.”

Rogolifoi said the decision to cancel the league came after teams failed to meet deadlines, as well as failure to attend scheduled meetings set by the league. Previous scheduled meetings resulted in low turnouts of team representatives, resulting in Rogolifoi questioning if the teams really want to play.

The league was originally set to begin last Saturday along with the 2005 SML Masters Baseball League. However, only the game’s veterans were able to take the field as officials had to postpone the start of the amateur league, which Rogolifoi said “was not ready.”

Several teams had shown interest in competing in the league, including the Pirates, Hustlers, D9ers, and Tanapag. Games were supposed to be held on Saturdays and Sunday at the Kan Pacific Baseball Field in Marpi.
