All systems are a go the start of the 6th Annual United Filipino Organization Basketball League as officials kick off the four-month long cagefest at 2pm tomorrow at the Oleai Sports Complex.

During an interview, UFO president Roland Pamintuan explained that everything is set and he expects this season’s opening festivities to be the biggest yet.

“It’s getting bigger every year,” Pamintuan said. “We’re trying our best to improve each year, from the opening of the season to ground rules, and everything. We’re trying to make it better and better for everyone involved, even the fans each year.”

The cagefest’s opening parade would be held at the Oleai track and field oval to give players and fans alike a more airy and comfortable experience. The 12 participating teams and their respective muses will kick off their campaign by showing off their uniforms and banners. The festivities will also feature live band entertainment, as well as dance numbers from participating organization Bayani as well as a Polynesian dance group.

Several awards are also at stake on Opening Day as teams would be vying for the Best Muse and Best Uniform plums.

In keeping with its tradition, organizers are sponsoring a Mass tomorrow morning at the San Antonio Parish Church. Pamintuan said all players, coaches, team officials, and supporters are invited to attend Mass, which would be conducted by Father Manny Corcuera.

Meanwhile, Pamintuan recognized the unified efforts of all involved in the planning and organizing stages of the fundraising event.

“I commend those who are trying their best every year,” he said. “We’re united in this fundraising event of ours. We’re trying to expand the community service as a way to express appreciation to the community. Just recently rehabilitated the Civic Center court. We’ve adopted the facility because that’s where we started out. It’s a way to give back to people and the community.”
