130 youths gather for Youth Summit
Over 130 youth members composed of junior and high school students from private and public schools attended the 4th Annual CNMI Youth Summit held at the Sandcastle, Hyatt Regency Saipan last Thursday and Friday.
Four speakers conducted presentations before the group during the first day of the summit. Acting Commissioner of Education David M. Borja and Board of Education chair Roman C. Benavente started the discussion with the Education and Scholarship Program in the Commonwealth. Workforce Investment Agency executive director Jesse Stein talked about his office and its employment perspective for the youth in the CNMI, while Division of Youth Services director Victor Mesta discussed the different programs his office has to offer the youth.
The first day of the summit ended with a panel discussion on the subjects discussed during the day.
Friday’s session included presentations on Judicial Branch and Youth and the Law by Associate Judge David A. Wiseman. Community Guidance Center’s Reyna Malone spoke about the center’s programs for the youth.
Youth Congress officer Ana S. Teregeyo briefed them on what the Youth Congress is really all about.
Later in the afternoon, participants were divided into groups which made presentations on four different categories or agencies: Community Guidance Center, Education, Division of Youth Services and Workforce Investment Agency. The groups discussed and presented their plan of action that would improve each category to benefit the entire CNMI youth.
BOE secretary and treasurer Marja Lee Taitano and Rep. Benjamin Seman also attended the summit. The CNMI Youth Congress, Legislative Bureau, and Reps. Ramon Tebuteb, Arnold I. Palacios and Seman sponsored the event.
House Speaker Benigno R. Fitial also graced the Youth Summit and welcomed its participants.
