Lagooners juice out against Malat
The Lagooners bounced back and notched its second win in three matches after beating Malat, 64-43, in the ongoing 2005 World Organized Rocball High School League at the Marianas High School Gymnasium.
The Lagooners were given a good fight, but still did enough to take the opening set and grab the early advantage, 16-11. Denry Fiden led the Lagooners’ charge in the process as he knocked in a goal.
The Lagooners had an easier time in the second set as they padded their lead in the overall points tally with another well-earned victory. The team was blasting away powerful serves and won, 16-8, to increase their lead to 13 points, 32-19.
Lagooners were leading 13-11 in the third set when time expired and force Rocball founder James Feger to hold off the remainder of the match until yesterday.
The Lagooners, however, were not able to maintain momentum when the match resumed as Malat fought back and gave the Lagooners a run for their money before surpassing them and taking an 18-16 win. Helping Malat’s cause was a big goal from Darrel Moteisou.
The team still needed to win the fourth set to force overtime as they trailed, 37-48, in the overall tally.
It was not to be for Malat though as the Lagooners got back to their dominating ways and bruised the ball with all their might to juice out for the win. Tito Francisco opened the set with a goal and it was cruise control from there as Francisco and company closed the match with a 16-6 rout.
Francisco finished as the game’s heavy hitter with 13 points on five aces and a goal, while Fiden added 11 points courtesy of two aces, two xunks, and a goal. Gary Phillip also supported them with 10 points after hitting two aces, two xunks, and a kee.
Moteisou and Joel Satur led Malat with nine and eight points. Moteisou had three aces and a goal while Satur smacked in four aces.
High school Rocball action continues today as defending champion Mwaliyas goes for its third straight win, while Just For Fun looks to break into the win column.
