Child Visitation Center renovation completed
The proposed renovation for the Child Visitation Center on Building No. 1262 in Capitol Hill has been completed.
The center will be utilized as a safe, neutral location where families can seek support in periods of transition and serve as a location where the exchange of children or actual visits can take place.
The Child Visitation Center will be managed by Connecting Families, Inc., a non-profit organization with the goal to reduce violence in homes and to promote healing within families affected by domestic violence.
“Majority of the renovation has been paid through fundraising efforts over the last three years. Last year, CFI was the beneficiary for the Pineapple Ball,” said Laura Tenorio-Fejeran, chairperson for CFI. “Also, we’re pleased with the support our elected leaders have demonstrated.”
She is referring to the House bill introduced by Rep. Thomas Tebuteb that was signed into law last month. Public Law 14-97 appropriates $49,000 from the Saipan Trust Fund for Connecting Families to assist the CFI with its initial operation costs and in renovating the second building, thereby enabling the organization to begin generating its own revenue to sustain its operations.
“Community involvement is just as important as financial support. We’d like to invite all interested organizations—private or public—to show their care and creativity to help with painting, personalizing, and furnishing the rooms for client services,” Fejeran added.
Rotary Club of Saipan and Lite In The Eve Foundation have already committed to setting up two of the four rooms. There are two rooms still available for decorating and furnishing.
