Man gets 18-day jail term for theft
The Superior Court has imposed an 18-day jail term on a man accused of stealing an amplifier and a gold bracelet from two companies.
Following a plea agreement, Associate Judge Kenneth Govendo sentenced 35-year-old Ignacio T. Ruan to one year in prison, all suspended, except 18 days.
Govendo gave Ruan credit for the 11 days he already served in jail when he was arrested.
After completing the jail term, Ruan will be placed on two years of supervised probation.
Govendo ordered the defendant to pay a $300 fine, $50 in court assessment fee, and probation fee.
The judge required the defendant to perform $80 hours of community work service, pay $60 in restitution, and undergo counseling evaluation at the Community Guidance Center.
During the probationary period, Ruan is prohibited from consuming any alcoholic beverages.
Govendo ordered the defendant to stay away and write letters of apology to the victims Jia Gui Yan, Aby Kwong On Leung, Millennium Corp., and Caronel Watch Center.
In June 2004, the Attorney General’s Office charged Ruan with burglary and theft.
In March 2005, the AGO filed another criminal case, charging the defendant with theft.
The defendant and counsel entered a plea agreement with the AGO. On Tuesday, he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor theft as a lesser-included offense of felony theft in the first case. He also pleaded guilty to theft in the second case.
Court papers stated that on June 21, 2004 on Saipan, the defendant stole a Hungyun E1880 PRO amplifier belonging to Millennium Crop., or Leung.
Court documents also showed that on Jan. 31, 2005 on Saipan, the defendant stole a Guess brand ladies gold bracelet worth $60 from Caronel Watch Center.
