PRTI-DARE visits Rota
For the last week of November, the Pacific Regional Training Institute-Drug Abuse Resistance Education started their long awaited activity with their 2006 Health and Public Safety Poster Calendar contest.
Participants include both the public and private schools on Guam and the CNMI. To add more toward the activities, Sinapalo Elementary School on Rota invited the PRTI-DARE personnel for a drug awareness and prevention presentation.
The presentation was for the 5th grade students of Valerie Atalig, Annie Mendiola, and Cecil Mendiola’s upcoming drug prevention and awareness school project.
Another activity for the week, with the assistance of the Rota Resort and Country Club, provided their golf facilities for the Get Up and Try Something program monthly activities with the ESFDB students. The students enjoyed a round of golf activities. The program looks forward to their continued support and providing positive alternatives and smart choices for the youths.
The Rota Resort and Country Club management and staff had been tremendously helpful in providing assistance to the program and students.
Furthermore, the final event of the week, the PRTI-DARE program student body members and ESFDB STUCO assisted the ESFDB Parents-Teachers Officer with their trash-a-thon fundraising drive to help the Eskuelan San Francisco De Borja. The early morning trash pick up started at various locations in the SongSong Village areas. Parents and students all pitched in to beautify the island of Rota.
The program would like to thank the parents and ESFDB staff, who came out and volunteered to watch the students and see them enjoy their activity and for providing transportation for the students. The parents had been a tremendous help during past activities.
According to PRTI supervisor Edward Maratita Jr., the G.U.T.S program has other upcoming activities after the school holiday break. One of them is the ongoing fundraising and kick off of the DARE-Jr. NBA/WNBA friendship tournament to be held in February and May of 2006 on Guam. (PR)
