Bank of Hawaii vice president and district manager Stephen Brock is leaving the island next week after a two-year stay.

“I’m the only one leaving, not the bank,” said Brock, smiling in his brief remarks during Wednesday’s Saipan Chamber of Commerce’ meeting at Hyatt Regency, dispelling rumors that the bank would close down its office on Saipan.

Brock disclosed that SCC incoming president Charles Cepeda called him up recently to verify the issue.

“That’s not true. The bank is not leaving,” he told the crowd.

Brock said he and his family will leave the island on Dec. 16.

He said he will be assigned to Guam to assume his new role as manager of Bank of Hawaii’s West Pacific Corporate Banking Group.

“It will still allow me to travel to Saipan periodically to meet with corporate clients here and explore new commercial banking opportunities,” he said.

Brock arrived on Saipan in 2004.

He said he has had a great time on island, meeting wonderful people and taking part in various projects.

“My family and I have had a great experience on Saipan the two years we have been here. In a short period of time, we have made many close friends that we will continue to stay in touch with while we are in Guam and wherever life takes us,” he said.

Brock has been an active member of NMI American Red Cross, serving as treasurer and co-chair of the 2005 Club 200.

He is also Rotary Club of Saipan treasurer, Karidat board member, Saipan Bankers Association president, and member of the Strategic Economic Development Council.

He recently chaired an ad-hoc committee that reviewed the government’s qualifying certificate program.

Brock presented the committee’s report before the chamber yesterday.

“I always believe that you gain so much more than you could ever give when you serve your community and volunteer in community organizations,” said Brock.
