Jollibee busy as a bee as it turns six

Free food, giveaways and entertainment will await Jollibee patrons tomorrow as the Saipan franchise outlet of the Philippines’ largest fastfood chain turns six years old.

It’s the children’s time to shine at Jollibee-Garapan, which will host tomorrow its “Star in A Million” contest, which will showcase kids’ singing voices, dancing skills and other talents as they battle for cash and gift prizes.

Jollibee’s staff has also prepared dance numbers to the tune of the Filipino hit theme song for the television show “Pinoy Big Brother,” while the Grooveline band will entertain the restaurant’s patrons with live acoustic music.

“We’ll give that day just for customers,” said Ralph Yumul, vice president and general manager of YCO Corp., Jollibee’s franchisee on Saipan. “We like to invite the public to come down. We’ll give them free food, prizes, gifts and entertainment.”

Yumul said the “Star in a Million” contest would showcase the talents of Jollibee Kids’ Club members with ages 9 to 12. Yumul said the entertainment programs and special activities would begin at noontime and last until 9pm. Grooveline’s entertainment will start at around 4:30pm and will last for about an hour.

The Jollibee mascot will grace the anniversary celebration not only to entertain kids but also to give away free food and novelty items such as balloons, toys, and cellular phone holders while supplies last. There will be raffle drawings and games for kids.

Tomorrow’s giveaways will also include free beef burgers for the first 50 customers from 8am to 11am, free ice cream cup for the first 50 kids from 12pm to 3pm, free Pearl Coolers for the first 50 customers from 5pm to 10pm.

“On behalf of the Yumul family and the staff and management of Jollibee, we would like to thank CNMI residents,” Yumul said.

Since YCO opened Jollibee on Dec. 10, 1999, Yumul said prices have remained at almost the same levels. Saipan’s Jollibee has witnessed a growing clientele base, starting from Filipinos and expanding to local residents, who eventually got accustomed to the crispy Chickenjoy and the Jollibee mascot for children’s parties.
