Used car sales down
The sale of used cars in the CNMI so far this year has declined, continuing the same trend observed in the last few years.
November 2005 data from the Commonwealth Auto Dealers Association showed there were 25 used cars sold during the month, bringing the total number of sold cars to 296 this year.
This represents about 20 percent of the total sale of brand new cars so far this year.
CADA reported the sale of 1,420 brand new cars from the three car dealers in the CNMI as of last month.
CADA statistics showed that the total number of sold used cars kept decreasing over the past three years.
In calendar year 2002, there were 476 used cars sold.
This number went down to 399 in 2003, and further down to 380 in 2004.
CADA lists three authorized car dealers in the CNMI: Microl Corp., Joeten Motors, and Triple J Motors.
Microl sold 146 used cars so far this year while Triple J Motors sold 78.
Joeten Motors sold 25 used cars.
On a year to date basis, Microl Corp. still topped the sector with 672 brand new cars sold, followed by Joeten Motors with 413, and Triple J Motors with 335.
Microl Corp. sells Toyota and Chevrolet brands, while Joeten sells Nissan, Ford, Honda, and Kia makes.
Triple J Motors sells Hyundai, Mitsubishi, Isuzu, Subaru, and Mazda models.
