Local recruits end their Marine Corps training

Several young men from Saipan were among 457 graduates of the Marine Corps Recruit Training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego, California last Friday, Jan. 13.

“The Marine Corps recruit training is the most difficult recruit training in the nation and a tough undertaking for all who accept the challenge to become a United States Marine,” said Marine Colonel R.O. Sinclair.

The young men endured twelve weeks of physical, mental, and emotional preparation transforming them civilian to Marine.

Private Jeff B. Dela Cruz, the son of Pedro Dela Cruz and Primativa Dela Cruz of Susupe, Saipan, is a graduate of Marianas High School with a Military Occupation Specialty in Motor Transport.

“To those who are interested in joining the Marines, expect transformation and hard work. Joining the Marines, you live by a set of enduring core values of honor, courage and commitment to meet any challenge. It’s great,” Pvt. Dela Cruz said.

Private Elmery G. Palacios is a graduate of Saipan Southern High School, Class of 2005 and has an MOS in Construction and Utilities. His graduation was highlighted by the presence of his parents Eleuterio A. and Erlinda G. Palacios, his cousin Chief Warrant Officer 4 Frank and wife Annie Palacios, Peter Torres, on behalf of CNMI Resident Representative Pete A Tenorio, and his wife Jovita C. Torres and daughter Raena.

“One must never forget things that are important to us,” Pvt. Palacios said. “Resident Representative Tenorio’s support for the many men and women serving around the world in the cause for freedom inspires people to lead a bigger life and strive for bigger goals,” continued the grateful Marine.

Another graduate of SSHS, Private First Class David J. Santos is the son of David Santos and Juanita Cruz. Santos’ MOS is in Aviation Mechanics and he will further training in Pensacola, Florida.

Resident Representative Tenorio congratulated privates Dela Cruz and Palacios and PFC Santos and stated that they show a good example for CNMI’s young men and women. “I’m proud of you Marines and I wish you the very best as you are called for duty to serve and defend this great nation. Know that my support goes out to you and your families.” (PR)
