Chalan Kanoa Kings notched its first win of the season after outlasting the Sparks, 32-27, in the continuation of the 2006 Inter-Village Youth Basketball League Tuesday night at the Chalan Kanoa Basketball Court.

The Kings got into the groove early and thanks to the four points of Ron Catap moved ahead 10-4 after the opening quarter.

Chalan Kanoa continued to step on the gas pedal in the second quarter, getting buckets from Catap, leading scorer Scott Blewett, and Edward Salito as they headed into the halftime break on top, 16-10.

The Sparks made their move at the start of the second half. After scoring six points in the second quarter, hotshot Dominic Reyes exploded for nine more, as Matansa trimmed the Kings’ lead and were only down by three points, 24-21, going into the final eight minutes of the contest.

It was anybody’s ballgame in the payoff period, but the Kings managed to nudge the Sparks to improve to 1-3. The loss was the second in three days for Matansa.

Blewett and Catap finished with 12 and 10 points to pace the Kings, while Reyes got a consolation of sorts by taking game-high honors with 19.
