Tinian ballers start season
A crowd of fans, parents, and VIPs turned out to the watch the highly anticipated start of the 2006 Tinian Little League Association Season last month as four squads of sluggers suited up for action at the Tinian Municipal Baseball Field last Feb. 25.
After the opening ceremonies came to a close, the defending champion Sen. Jude U. Hofschneider Sharks took one on the chin when they were bested by the Don Power Starz, 22-5, while the Kwan Raptors spun the fledgling Typhoons around in a 24-3 win in the second game.
For the first time in Tinian, the Little Leaguers have something to shoot for when they grow up thanks to the start of the Junior League that opened a week later on Saturday, March 4, at Tinian Municipal Field.
The JC’s Café Sali scored a thrilling 15-10 victory over the Sen. Joseph M. Mendiola Hilitai under the lights, and the teams provided plenty of opportunity for the folks in the press box to break in the newly installed electronic scoreboard.
While the old-fashioned manual system added some charm to the complex, the modern-style tally tracker provided a much-needed upgrade to the ballpark.
In addition to congratulating the players for a successful start of the season, the TLLA thanked Mayor Jose P. San Nicolas, Rep. Aldan and JC’s Café, the 11th Municipal Council, Tinian Youth Center, DPW, DLNR, Don Power, and the Tinian Dynasty Hotel and Casino for making the opening of the 2006 Little League and Junior League a huge success.
