DPS Crime Prevention Center burglarized
The Department of Public Safety’s Crime Prevention Center on Capitol Hill was burglarized and some items were stolen, according to DPS yesterday.
DPS spokesman Ken I. Concepcion said the break-in at the Crime Prevention Center, which is located at government building no. 1367, was discovered by DPS staff on Thursday at 8am.
Concepcion said the stolen items included a 32-inch flat screen TV, a red JVC Boom Blaster stereo, and a Sony DVD/video combo.
The report stated that DPS staff found the burglary when they reported to work and observed that the back door was unlocked.
The staff initially assumed there was a DPS personnel inside, but later realized there was nobody in the building.
DPS staff then noticed that the restroom window located in the back of the building had been pried open, Concepcion said.
The staff learned that some items were missing. Police were then called.
The DPS Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) program led by Police Officer 3 Sandy Hambros also occupies the building.
Concepcion said the DPS Criminal Investigation Bureau under Maj. Edward H. Manalili is conducting a follow-up investigation.
Last month, the Emergency Management Office’s storage room on Capitol Hill, was also burglarized. About 63 boxes of disaster relief supplies worth $54,000 were stolen.
Police had already recovered most of the stolen disaster relief supplies, but as of yesterday no arrests had been made yet.
