Detectives rounded up suspected burglars on Saipan over the weekend, the Saipan Tribune learned yesterday.

Department of Public Safety spokesman Ken Concepcion confirmed that it was operatives from the Criminal Investigation Bureau’s Thief Apprehension Select Coalition that conducted the operation.

Concepcion said TASC agents served the arrest warrants issued by the Superior Court to some individuals Friday and Saturday.

The DPS spokesman said the CIB under Maj. Edward H. Manalili is expected to brief him today about how many were arrested in the two-day operation.

When contacted by the Saipan Tribune, Manalili said he could not provide details about the operation such as how many got arrested because he has not seen the report yet.

Manalili, however, hinted that there were five to 10 persons believed to be involved in burglary cases on the island who were covered in the TASC’s operation.

Detectives have noticed that burglars are active again over the past few weeks.

Last Thursday, the Attorney General’s Office’s Criminal Division, located next to the police’s station in Susupe, was reportedly burglarized and at least two computers were stolen.

Recently, the office of the Micronesian Legal Services, located near the AGO’s Criminal Division was also burglarized. Stolen were a computer desktop and a laptop computer.

Early this month, burglars struck again at William S. Reyes Headstart and at Kagman High School, carting away some computers and other items.

TASC agents have been instrumental with the arrests of many notorious burglars and thieves on the island during the terms of then DPS commissioners Edward Camacho and Santiago Tudela. Thousands of dollars worth of items were also recovered by the TASC team during these period.
