Mwaliyas refusing to go down
Defending champion Mwaliyas may be down but they definitely are not out, as the team showed that they are not giving up their crown easily.
Trailing 2-1 in the best-of-five championship series against Ochobu, Mwaliyas finally looked like the team that won all their regular season games as they opened Game 4 with a bang in the 2006 World Organized Rocball High School League yesterday at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
Ochobu, which has played consistently strong in the first three games, still put up a solid attack in the first set as Ramsey Sino connected on two goals to put pressure on Mwaliyas.
The defending champions handled the pressure well as Pedro Iguel and Shane Yamada came through with back-to-back goals and despite a mishap on first serve midway through the set, Mwaliyas was still able to pull through for a 17-15 victory.
It was all Mwaliyas in the second set as the team set their sights on tying the series. Iguel, Yamada, and Darrel Roligat came through with big hits, and Mwaliyas was able to take the set with ease, 17-9.
With the win, Mwaliyas holds a 10-point advantage heading into today’s match-up, 34-24.
Iguel currently leads Mwaliyas with nine points on two aces, a kee, and a goal, while Yamada has five points after hitting a kee and a goal.
Sino leads Ochobu with six points on his two goals.
The third set gets underway at 11:30am. If Ochobu fights back and wins the match, they claim the title. Mwaliyas must win to force a do-or-die fifth match.
As reported earlier, Ochobu won a hard-fought Game 1 that was decided on the second set of o-kon, while Mwaliyas came back to win Game 2 after trailing through three sets.
Ochobu moved just one win away from dethroning Mwaliyas after winning Game 3 on Tuesday, 62-37.
