Intense action is expected tonight as the finals of the 2006 Inter-Government Basketball League kicks off at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

Working their way to the big show were pennant champion Tinian and former champion Department of Public Safety Enforcers after the two got past a tough playoffs scene last week.

The two are scheduled to challenge each others’ skills beginning at 8pm following the consolation bout between second-seed Department of Labor and 2005 champion No Zone, who will play for third place at 6:30pm.

The Enforcers had to get past the Public School System last Monday, coming back from a 14-point first quarter deficit to win and move to the semifinals with a 100-86 victory.

The team then had its way against Labor in the semifinals on Wednesday en route to a 79-53 victory.

For their part, the Tinian cagers earned an automatic ticket into the semis, where they were given a run for their money by No Zone. Tinian fought back from a double-digit fourth quarter deficit behind their hustle and bombs from long range, and eliminated the defending champions with a 95-87 victory.

Game 2 of the finals will be played on Wednesday at 6:30pm, and if necessary, Game 3 will be played on Monday at 6:30pm.
