PTI Jam Shooters did show up to score the requisite 1.5 points to win 2006 CNMI Billiard League Spring Season Wednesday night at Shooters Sports Bar & Grill in Garapan.

Jam Shooters made up of team captain Jerry Soriano, Rommel Crisostomo, Senen Pangilinan, Rowell Mariano, Erwin Gomez, and Joey Lucido slammed the door shut on contenders Hyatt Pomec, Los Cabos, and Destroyers by losing to Los Cabos, 8-10.

Defeat couldn’t have been any sweeter as the Pacific Telecom Inc.-backed squad finished the season with 119 points.

Hyatt Pomec, which beat Navy Hill Boys 10-2 to finish the season on high note, came in second with 112 points, followed by Los Cabos and Destroyers with 111.5 and 108 points, respectively.

Destroyers was a shell of its old self, as it was outplayed by Ballers II, 7.5-6, in both teams’ season finale played at Corner Pocket.

The bottom half of the standings saw Pool Junkies finish with 103 points—after it was waylaid by Ballers 10-3.5. Ballers II was sixth with 88.5 points, followed by Navy Hill Boys with 86.5 points, and perennial cellar dweller Ballers with 72.5 points.

Soriano attributed Jam Shooters’ win to good team chemistry and all members of the team knowing their roles.

“We have great camaraderie in this team. Everyone knows their capabilities and what is expected of them. I’m also happy that me and Senen finally had a chance to play together again and we are very ecstatic about the result,” he said.

The Saipan Ice & Water Co. employee also said that his players, to the last man, contributed to the win and he also extended his thanks to PTI and Jam Construction for sponsoring them in the tournament.

The CNMI Billiards League also announced that make-up games scheduled for next week will not be played after all, as the outcome of the games will not affect the final standings of the tournament.

Jam Shooters will be awarded their championship trophy during an awards banquet set at Shooters Sports Bar on May 17 beginning at 6pm.
