The Garapan Rollers II had everything working for them and went on to score the biggest win of the 2006 season in last night’s action in the NYBA cage league at the Garapan Basketball Court.

The G-II cagers took advantage of their moment in the spotlight and got the best out of Eddie Manalili to stun sister team G-Rollers I, 28-24 to win the championship of the 12-and-under division.

The two teams battled in a pretty evened bout, but in the end, it was the G-II crew that came up with the big shots to survive.

Manalili operated like a sniper on an urgent mission as he fired off six field goals for 12 points to lead his team, while Marty Mindez and Antonio Barnilla supported with six points apiece. The team also got four points out of Joe Hocog to pull off the victory.

Lawrence Deleon Guerrero paced the G-Rollers I with nine points, while Lester Vertudes and Michael Moran worked their magic for eight and five points. Mamaril Genesis also contributed two points.

Other members of the championship team include Tiana Quitugua, Kaylani Lebria, Jacob Palacios, Devin Nolsom, David Diaz, Sho Labei, Terence Leung, Mikhial Basillo, and Ankie Manalili.

Other members of the runner-up G-I squad include Craig Chargulaf, Kenneth Dado, Min Ho Kim, and Jamian Dela Cruz.

Championship action in the NYBA continued last night with the Garapan Rollers facing the CTSI Logistics-backed House of Manhoben Saints in the 13-and-under finals. The G-Rollers I and II were also scheduled to battle for the 16-and-under title.

Awards for the top teams as well as individual players will be presented during an awards banquet held tomorrow at the Chamolinian Cultural Village at 6pm.

G-II 28 – E. Manalili 12, Antonio 6, Matez 6, Hocog 4.

G-I 24 – Deleon Guerrero 9, Vertudes 8, Moran 5, Genesis 2.
