Ray Salas is SGA May Ace
Rick Kautz was without peer in last Sunday’s Saipan Golf Association May Ace of the Month Tournament held at the Coral Ocean Point Golf Resort.
Kautz, who local duffers dubbed “Hafa Dude,” fired a net score of 66 after scorching the field with a 40 in the front nine and 36 in the back for a gross score of 76.
He, however, did not take home the May Ace after already winning the March tournament and instead ceded the monthly plum to the day’s runner-up Ray Salas.
The 22-handicap Salas actually tied Kautz with his 66 after firing a 48 in the front and 40 in the back for a gross score of 88. But Salas lost out in the tiebreak in the eighth hole after finishing it with a double bogey as against Kautz’s bogey.
Salas completed three birdies during the tournament.
SGA secretary Larry Guerrero came in a shot back of Kautz and Salas after shooting a 67 on the strength of his 45 in the front and 43 in the back for a gross of 88. He had a birdie in the 15th hole and managed to save par in hole No. 8.
Max Castro was fourth best in the 15-man field with his 69. The 18 handicapper came away with a 42 in the front and 45 in the back for a gross of 87.
In the longest drive competition; Jess Castro ruled the 8th hole, while Joe Demapan was without equal in hole No. 16,
Closest to the pin went to Demapan in the third hole, Edward Manibusan in hole No. 7, Jung Eun Taeck in the 12th hole, and Mariano Fajardo in the 14th hole.
In related news, SGA will hold its June Ace of the Tournament in conjunction with the Santa Soledad Golf Tournament set for June 10. The August edition of the competition, meanwhile, will be held on Rota.
