The Tinian harbor emergency repair will cost some $2.5 million, according to the Commonwealth Ports Authority.

“That’s the estimated amount,” said CPA executive director Clyde Norita following a consultant’s presentation on the Tinian harbor project yesterday.

The CPA board approved yesterday the hiring of engineer Juan C. Tenorio to do the architectural design and construction of the project.

Tenorio, the older brother of former Gov. Froilan C. Tenorio, did the original design of the Tinian harbor in 1997. The contractor, who would be paid $175,000 for the emergency project, made a presentation on the state of Tinian harbor yesterday.

Tinian Mayor Jose P. San Nicolas has declared a state of emergency on Tinian due to the severe damage of the Tinian harbor. The mayor cited the collapsed outer seawall, which puts the harbor at risk during typhoons.

The municipality earlier said that the rebuilding of the breakwater costs $40 million while the temporary work or repair would require $1 million.
