Ol’Aces share lead with Patriots
The Happy Market-L&Y Corp. Ol’Aces returned to its winning ways on Tuesday dealing the Kagman Little Lions a 12-2 trouncing in the Majors division of the Saipan Little League at the Miguel Basa “Tan Ge” Pangelinan Field.
Ol’Aces returned on top of the standings joining defending champion SaipanCell Patriots with similar 6-1 slates. They suffered an 11-8 loss to the Martha’s Store Survivors on March 30 snapping their five-game winning run.
Jesse Brel pitched a no-relief game that was shortened by the 10-run mercy rule. He gave up one earned run on seven hits with three strikeouts and two walks.
Catalino Dela Cruz scored the lone earned run against Brel when he scored on a double by Keene Deleon Guerrero, who scored the other run on Ol’Aces shortstop Austin Ngiraidong’s error.
Brel had a lot of scoring support from his teammates and pitched on a 10-run lead even though the Little Lions of Reps. Ed Salas and Rosmond Santos threatened at the top of the fourth.
Lions relief pitcher Michael Muna doubled against Brel but Joseph Taitano struck out swinging for the first out. Muna got caught in a rundown as he tried to steal third base.
Jesse Santos walked and moved to second on a single by Isaac Ada, who was forced out at third on a 5-6 putout play for the third out to end the game.
Leadoff batter Lancaster Secharmidal went 2-for-3 with two runs, a double, and an RBI while Dave Matagolai went 2-for-3 with a run scored and two stolen bases.
T.J. Sablan went 1-for-2 but had a third-inning RBI triple to go with his three runs and one stolen base. Jeremy Lizama scored twice, had a stolen base, and an RBI triple in the second.
Lions pitchers Deleon Guerrero and Muna gave up six earned runs on eight hits with three strikeouts and seven walks as they shared three innings of work on the mound.
Muna also went 2-for-2 with a double and a triple but failed to score as he was tagged out on home in the first inning.
