Homers aplenty in DCCA win
Home runs littered the Miguel Basa “Tan Ge” Pangelinan Field on Tuesday night as defending champion Department of Community and Cultural Affairs sailed to a 32-1 win over Commonwealth Utilities Corp.
DCCA blasted 10 home runs in the game with three of the inside-the-park variety, while the rest went over the fence around Tan Ge field.
The win fortified DCCA’s chances of advancing further in the playoff round of the men’s division of the Inter-government Slow-pitch Softball League and maintained its hold of the title.
Sil Ada, Julian Camacho, Joey Dela Cruz, Mel Sakisat, Craig Sanchez, and Pete Tomokane connected with homers going over the fence, while Elias Rangamar, Mario Sablan, and Ben Tagabuel, blasted inside-the-park round-trippers.
Ada had a two-run home run in DCCA’s 14-run second inning scoring spree while Camacho went around the bases twice to go with his 3-for-5 batting, three runs, and six RBIs.
Camacho had a two-run homer in the first, a solo shot and a bases clearing triple both in the second inning. Dela Cruz hit the cycle going 5-for-5 with a single, two doubles, a triple, and a home run.
Dela Cruz had an RBI triple in the first and a solo shot in the fourth, while Mel Sakisat had a two-run homer in second to go with his double and two runs.
Sanchez went 3-for-5 with a two-run home run in the fifth, while Tomokane had a solo four-bagger in DCCA’s nine-run first inning.
Rangamar and Tagabuel whacked solo inside-the-park home runs, while Sablan slapped a two-run inside-the-parker.
Sakisat also pitched three scoreless innings before giving up CUC’s lone run at the top of the third. He gave up six hits with one strikeout and no walks.
Public School System also joined DCCA in the next round after a 17-2 thumping of Ports Police.
Pete Mendiola went 2-for-3 scoring two runs with a double, a triple, and three RBIs, two other players combined for 4-for-6 with four runs, a double, a triple, and five RBIs.
Aguaguat used an eight-run seventh inning to score a 13-9 come-from-behind win over Commonwealth Health Center, while the Northern Marianas College-Proa escaped with a 9-7 decision against CHC in the women’s division.
